Job Description

POST/JOB TITLE:            Student Assistant (Spring Careers Fair)



SCHOOL/DEPT:             Careers, Employability & Skills



NO. OF HOURS IF PT:     11 hours during term time, specific to event (6th/7th February 2024) 6th February - 1.00pm to 4.00pm for briefing and set up & 7th February 9.00am - 5.00pm (Spring Fair Day) Must be available on specified dates/times



JOB PURPOSE:



To support the successful delivery of our Spring Careers Fair within the University, undertaking promotional and logistical event tasks, with focus on providing an excellent Fair experience for students and employers.



MAJOR DUTIES:



Fair Event Delivery




  • Work as part of a team to ensure the successful and smooth delivery of our Spring Careers Fair on Wednesday 7th February 2024 (set up and briefing on Tuesday 6th February 2024)

  • Provide consistent and high level of customer service at central careers fairs, to include:




  • Welcoming exhibitors (including employers), staff and students on campus;

  • Acting as a point of contact and a source of information and guidance;

  • Registering students;

  • Guiding exhibitors according to designated seating or floorplans;

  • Providing directional support as required.




  • Accurately capture required Fair information, e.g. scanning student attendance, recording feedback and providing update to supervisors as required.

  • Undertake event set up and tear down tasks as allocated, to include:




  • Event staging, dressing of exhibitor stalls and positioning of branding collateral at Fair venues

  • Recording and storing of Fair collateral post event




  • Undertake any administrative duties in support of careers fairs, e.g.:




  • Preparing exhibitor welcome packs and other fair paper



Event Briefing and Training




  • Undertake and fully participate in all relevant event training, as required.

  • Attend all individual fair briefing sessions, set-up and tear-up for Fairs, as directed.

  • Key dates where availability is required are Tuesday 6th February 2024 (1.00pm – 4.00pm) and Wednesday 7th February 2024 (9.00am – 5.00pm)

  • Act as an ambassador and representative of the University at all times when undertaking duties.

  • Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by a Supervisor.

Experience / Skills Required:




  • Previous experience of working in a customer facing environment (face-to-face contact) e.g. could include event venues, bars, clubs or restaurants, this is preferred but not essential

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and make a positive and constructive contribution

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to proactively engage others in promotion of key messages and deal with face-to-face enquiries in a confident, courteous, patient, and professional manner

  • Ability to use initiative and be proactive

  • Provide a high level of customer care

Research Assistant in Organisation, Work and Leadership (up to a maximum of 6.5 hours per week for 24 weeks)

 

This part-time role (up to a maximum of 6.5 hours per week) will support academics in the Department of Organisation, Work and Leadership with their research.



Qualifications

A final year on an undergraduate Business / Management or International Business with a Language programme.



Skills

We are seeking applicants who wish to gain first-hand experience of conducting research in HRM, leadership and organisational behaviour, and who have an interest in communicating research to non-academic stakeholders.

 

This part-time role is intended for an individual who is currently on the BSc Business/Management or BSc International Business and who is thinking about doing a PhD.

 

Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. Knowledge of the appropriate discipline is required.

Research Assistant in International Business, Entrepreneurship and Management (up to a maximum of 6.5 hours per week for 24 weeks)

 

This part-time role (up to a maximum of 6.5 hours per week) will support academics in the Department of International Business, Entrepreneurship and Management with their research.



Qualifications

Final-year student in an undergraduate management or international business programme.



Skills

We are seeking applicants who wish to gain first-hand experience in conducting research in international business, entrepreneurship and management and who are interested in communicating research to non-academic stakeholders.

 

This part-time role is intended for an individual who is currently enrolled in the BSc Management or BSc International Business programme and considering pursuing a PhD.

 

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. A solid understanding of the relevant discipline is required.
