POST: AHSS Student Skills Assisant x 12 (Specialists in Digital, Academic, Employability/Transversal skills)



SCHOOL/DEPT: AHSS Faculty Office



DURATION: Fixed Term until 30th June 2025 (with the possibility of contract extension through to August 2025)



WAGE: £19.23 per hour (Salary may increase as of August 2024 but will be commensurate with Queen's University's Agenda for Change)



CLOSING DATE: Midnight on Sunday16th June 2024

JOB SUMMARY:



We are looking for 12 exceptional students to join our Student Skills Development Team in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS). As part of a dedicated team of Student Assistants, you'll provide peer-to-peer support and training for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, and to promote the student skills agenda.



The team will be made up of Digital (x4), Academic (x4) and Employability/Transversal (x4) assistants* to form the ‘Student Skills Development Team’ who will then be split into 3 sub-teams supporting either Undergraduate (UG), Post Graduate Taught (PGT), or Post Graduate Research (PGR) students across the faculty. Your responsibilities will include organising events, delivering training, offering support through 1-2-1s and group drop-in sessions, and creating engaging learning guides in written and video formats. Additionally, as a member to the Student Skills Development Team, you will actively represent the student voice in important committees and working groups, contributing to decisions that shape the future of student skills development within the AHSS Faculty and the wider university. Research Assistant in Management (up to a maximum of 40 hours per week for 10 weeks)



This part-time role (up to a maximum of 40 hours per week) will support academics in the Department of Organization, Work and Leadership with their research.



Qualifications

A Master's degree in HRM or related programme.



Skills

We are seeking applicants who wish to gain first-hand experience of conducting research in management, and who have an interest in communicating research to non-academic stakeholders.



 



This part-time role is intended for an individual who is currently on the PhD program or finishing MSc HRM (or equivalent) and who is thinking about doing a PhD.



 



This role requires prior knowledge of literature review, data collection, input and analysis via NVivo software and SPSS software. 



 



Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. Knowledge of the appropriate discipline is required.

Languages at Queen’s, in collaboration with NICILT, will be running a mentoring scheme between September 2024 and January 2025 for school pupils in year 12. The aims of the scheme will be to support GCSE pupils in French, Irish or Spanish; to help them build oral skills; to support them with areas of language learning that they find challenging; to enthuse them about language learning; to build confidence such that those who might consider taking a language at A level feel empowered to make a positive decision. Mentors will act as ‘role models and ambassadors’ to programme participants, providing potential students with an enthusiastic insight into life as a languages student at Queen’s, including the experience of studying/working abroad or in the Gaeltacht.     



 



The mentoring will be ‘one-on-two’ (one mentor to two pupils). Mentors will receive training, including in relation to the Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Groups Act. They will also give talks to cohorts of pupils in the school and will help with a taster day for Languages at Queen’s. Materials for mentoring and for the talks will be provided. This will involve a total of around 12.5 hours work.  Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Job Title: Videographer & Content Creator



Job Type: Part-Time



Salary: £19.62 per hour (average 10 hours per week)

We are seeking a talented and creative Part-Time Videographer to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a passion for storytelling through video and a strong eye for detail. This individual will be responsible for both capturing and editing high-quality video content, mainly in the ‘talking-head’ style, to capture authentic staff and student voices from across the institution of Queen’s University, Belfast. This video content will be published on our Digital Assessment & Feedback Toolkit (on SharePoint) and will ultimately support staff in enhancing their assessment and feedback practices.



 



Key Responsibilities



Video Production:




  • Capture high-quality video footage using 4K camera and high-quality audio equipment.

  • Set up and manage lighting, audio, and other production equipment for shoots.

  • Plan and execute video shoots, including framing, composition, and shot selection.

  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.

  • Assist the interviewer and interviewee with ad-hoc video production-related needs.



Video Editing:




  • Store and organise raw video footage securely and in a clear and logical system.

  • Plan and storyboard raw footage into compelling, cohesive videos.

  • Add music, b-roll footage, graphics, and other elements to enhance the visual appeal of the videos.

  • Use video editing software to create engaging and professional content.

  • Ensure that the final videos meet the company's branding and project messaging guidelines.



Content Development:




  • Collaborate with Laura Farling (project coordinator) and creative teams to develop video concepts and storyboards.

  • Propose innovative ideas and approaches to video content that align with the project objectives.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in video production.



Project Management:




  • Manage multiple video projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Maintain organised records of video assets, including backups and archives.

  • Communicate effectively with the project coordinator, video subjects, and other team members to align to project goals and deadlines.



Qualifications

We are open to receiving applications from any student at Queens (regardless of subject discipline or level). However, it is vital that the successful candidate complies with the following:




  • Candidate must be a current student at Queen’s University, Belfast.

  • Proven experience as a videographer, with a portfolio of previous work.

  • Proficiency in video recording and editing software (e.g. Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
