You will join a research team setting up a new clinical trial to evaluate an experimental therapy for PTSD in Military Veterans. Your primary activities will be to support the trial manager to develop the application for ethical permission. This will include contributing to developing the protocol, the application form and all required documentation such as those related to participant recruitment (incl via social media and website text/images), informed consent, data collection and study updates. You will be required to work in the Waterloo office for two days a week on most weeks. The trial manager will work closely with you to direct your work and there is a broad team of 6 academic staff with whom you will be in daily or weekly email and video call contact with to receive their contributions and edits to these documents as they are developed. 



Qualifications

BSc, MSc or Post Graduate Certificate in a health or social care-related topic that has a research component.



Skills

Experience of health research ethics application proceedures



Attention to procedureal and gramatical detail when developing and revieweing documents



Self directed working and ability to work to deadlines



Good team working and communication skills



Proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and ability to quckly grasp new software platforms such as Qualtrics

We are looking to employ a Research Associate / Research Assistant to lead on a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) project with bariatric surgery patients and to support the launch of a psychology research database. This will be on a fixed-term basis until 31st July (21 hours per week) and pay is equivalent to a Research Associate (G6, spine 31) at £23.67 per hour, or Research Assistant (G5, spine 25) at £20.46.



The PPI element of this role will involve recruiting a diverse group of patient representatives from different backgrounds (identified by NHS staff) and exploring their views and feedback on research topics, their experience of the bariatric surgery, gaps in care, and recommendations. The researcher will conduct interviews and engage with PPI representatives to review and iterate documents where needed. The goal is to also set up a PPI panel for ongoing input where needed, and the researcher will produce a brief report.



The other component of this role may involve liaising with NHS collaborators and providing research set-up support linked to implementation of the research database. The researcher may be required to host a stakeholder meeting and will assist with ongoing needs of the project, where relevant. Other tasks may arise for the researcher to feed into on different projects.



 



 



Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctorate (or equivalent) in a related subject area (e.g. psychology, medicine, health) is required for appointment at Research Associate level.

  • Students completing a PhD or Doctorate (or equivalent) who wish to dovetail this work will be considered for appointment at Research Assistant level. 



 



Skills

  • Experience of conducting participant interviews and/or carrying out PPI work.

  • Experience of working with health populations, clinical research, and/or in psychology is desirable.

Provision of the administrative processes for the Bachelor in Medicine/Bachelor in Surgery, in particular years 3 and 4 of the programme



Act as a key contact for all enquiries relating to the relevant programmes.

Ensuring the smooth running of the relevant programmes on a day to day basis

Maintaining accurate records of student progression, including EC submissions; any other

relevant information which will be required for Subject Exam Boards.

Acting as secretary to the Academic Leads Meetings, including sending out agenda &

associated paperwork, minute taking, distribution of action points.

Supporting the work of the wider Curriculum Operation Unit, including contributing to the

provision of cover.



Qualifications

GCSE/O Level (Grade C or above) or equivalent in English and Maths



Educated to A Level (Grade C or above) or equivalent



(Desirable) Degree or equivalent, or equivalent attainment through experience



Skills

Experience of working as an administrator in a Higher Education Office environment

(preferably health care related)

A successful track record in working with colleagues at all levels, including senior staff and

external contacts

A good understanding of the annual cycle of administration within a Higher Education

environment

Experience of working with a variety of databases (ideally SITS)

Awareness and understanding of the current issues within Higher Education, particularly in

health care disciplines



Excellent organisational skills

Excellent IT skills, including spreadsheets, email, word processing and database

management (Microsoft Office)

Excellent written, verbal and numeracy skills

Accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet tight deadlines

Ability to deal with students in a supportive, friendly, and professional manner

A good understanding of student records and GDPR
