Job Description

The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of an article on the courts’ approach to directors’ business judgement. This is a very important topic. For example the ability to use company law to challenge oil companies to stop engaging in activities that contribute to climate change depends on how easy  it is for activist shareholders to challenge directors’ decisions. The answer in the UK is-not very easy-and it has quietly become harder due to a recent approach taken by the courts that has not yet been picked up and discussed, and which the courts themselves have not explained. 



The successful candidate will receive a contract for 36 hours of research assistance (If you are PhD funded and only working 6 per hours per week as per Terms and Conditions).

Audio & Video Editing role



We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Part-Time Student Podcast Editing Assistant (Audio & Video Editing) to join our team at Queen’s Student Experience Team.  



Are you passionate about storytelling through podcasts and have a keen eye for detail? This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in audio and video production while supporting incoming students. 



In this role, your primary focus will be editing and enhancing our audio recordings to ensure our podcasts deliver a polished and engaging listening experience. However, there may be additional opportunities to utilise your video filming and editing skills as project needs evolve. These podcasts and any potential video content will be published on a designated webpage within our upcoming Pre-Entry Onboarding Resources, ultimately supporting incoming students as they transition into their academic journey at Queen's University Belfast. 



Role responsibilities include: 





  • Podcast Editing (Primary Responsibilities) 







  • Store and organise raw audio recordings securely and in a clear and logical system. 




  • Edit raw audio recordings for our seven, 7-10 minute podcasts, ensuring a polished and engaging listening experience.  




  • Use podcast editing software to create engaging and professional content. 




  • Add music and sound effects from royalty-free sound libraries, and other elements to enhance the audio appeal of the podcasts. 




  • Remove background noise, edit interviews (including removing pauses and filler words), and level audio for consistent volume across speakers. 




  • Identify and resolve any audio quality issues (e.g., clicks, pops). 




  • Incorporate feedback to refine audio content and meet project goals. 




  • Export final podcasts in the required format and specifications. 




  • Ensure that the final podcasts meet the University's branding and project messaging guidelines.  




  • Assist with tasks related to podcast pre-production, such as script editing or transcription (if required). 





 



Video Filming & Editing (Secondary Responsibilities): 





  • Film short video content as assigned, following project guidelines and using provided equipment. 




  • Edit video content using editing software to create engaging and informative pieces. 




  • Collaborate with the project coordinator to ensure video content aligns with project goals and messaging. 





Project Management: 





  • Communicate effectively with the project coordinator and other team members to ensure project goals and deadlines are met. 




  • Maintain organised records of digital content assets, including backups and archives.  





Additional Information:





  • This is a casual work with flexible hours. The total working hours are estimated at 60 hours, spread over the four-week project period. Your actual working hours will depend on the time needed to complete the podcast editing tasks and any additional video editing needs.  




  • Work location will be hybrid with regular on-site check-ins with the project coordinator regarding progress. 




  • Training will be provided regarding the University and the project guidelines.





Qualifications

  • Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar) 



Skills

Essential Criteria: 





  • Candidate must be a current student at Queen’s University, Belfast. 




  • Demonstrable experience of audio editing content (e.g., podcasts, audiobooks) with a portfolio of previous work. 




  • Demonstrable experience of video editing content (e.g., content for social media) with a portfolio of previous work. 




  • Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar)  




  • Proficiency in video editing software.  




  • Knowledge and experience in using audio and video recording equipment and accessories. 




  • Strong creative and storytelling skills. 




  • Excellent attention to detail. 




  • Strong communication and teamwork skills. 




  • Ability to work independently (sometimes with minimal supervision) and manage time effectively. 





Desirable Criteria: 





  • Experience of audio and video editing and management of digital assets designed for a public audience. 




  • Familiarity with various content formats (including video and audio) and distribution platforms.  




  • An interest in education. 



Dr Conall Mallory is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant. The successful candidate will work to record voting patterns of judges in decisions handed down by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. While knowledge and understanding of the European human rights system would be an advantage, it is not required for this project.



The successful candidate will assist in populating a Microsoft excel spreadsheet which identifies how votes were made in judicial decisions across a 25-year period.

Gardening & Grounds Services Casual Workers for Summer



Estates Services Division have casual work available within their Grounds & Gardening Team for the busy summer period. 



The work is expected to take place between June to September 2024. 



Working up to 16 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours available which may suit candidates interested in evening / weekend work. 



The work is expected to cover a number of areas within the QUB campus including Upper Malone Playing Fields, the Main Site and other various campus locations.



The normal working hours for the Ground & Gardening Team is 8am to 4pm, however there is some flexibility over start and finish times. 



Various duties will include the general maintenance of University estate:



Hard and soft landscaping to include, but not limited to grass cutting, hedge cutting, strimming, planting, sweeping, litter lifting.



Operating a selection of battery powered hand tools and petrol powered equipment (training provided). 



Sports Pitch Maintenance – Grass and Synthetic surfaces (training provided) to include but not limited to grass cutting, line marking, operating ride on and pedestrian mowers. 



Pitch set-up to include erecting of goalposts, netting and portable equipment. 



Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the work as may be reasonably requested by the supervisor.
