Job Description

This is the second event for the new PGT Guidance Group Scheme in the Department of Informatics, an initiative designed to help students transition into postgraduate studies and enrich their experience at KCL. Recognising that students, particularly those arriving from diverse backgrounds and international locales, might face challenges in forging connections and navigating the academic landscape, this scheme seeks to bridge those gaps.



We are looking for mentors who are interested and available to act as a mentor of 5-6 PGT students at a networking event taking place on March 27, 2024 from 4-6pm on the Strand Campus. Mentors should be comfortable facilitating a discussion related to the future of computing and AI professions. 





The second event Theme is "Preparing for a Future in Flux" we will have a panel of speakers speaking for the first 60 minutes, in which mentors will only be required to attend. For the second hour, we will split into smaller groups and discuss a set of discussion prompt questions. No preparation or prior knowledge is necessary, ideally, mentors will be able to reflect on their own views and experience to guide the discussion. 




Qualifications

Currently enrolled within an Informatics PhD programme.

The Facilities Management Logistics Team at KCL is seeking a motivated, highly organised and people orientated driver to carry out collections and deliveries at all KCL sites.



 



As a logistics driver, the role will encompass working across all KCL campuses primarily collecting/delivering items, including supporting the movement of books between 6 University Libraries at the following locations:



 



Maughan Library (Holborn)



FWB Library (Waterloo)



St Thomas Library (Waterloo)



Guys Library (London Bridge)



IOP Library (Denmark Hill)



WEC Library (Denmark Hill)



 



In line with the University’s Sustainability Strategy, our fleet of vehicles are electric, and the successful applicant will be responsible for driving one of those vehicles ensuring that they adhere to all related safe working practices, guidance, and University policies. The appointed candidate will also be responsible for reporting any damage, accidents, and any safety-related defects immediately to the line manager.



This role will also cover the transport of ad-hoc items and will cover the post room as required.



While the role of the driver is mostly carried out independently, it is also important that you are a team player, with good levels of customer service, ensuring all interactions with stakeholders are delivered to the highest calibre.



This role will report to the Fleet coordinator.

Must be available to lead sessions on Fridays (daytime).

  • List the contents of the boxes of records (approximately 30 records management size boxes) on Word/Excel

  • Disposing of duplicate material under guidance

  • Repackaging material into archival packaging, removing unsuitable folders/plastic wallets



Possibly also require write up about anything interesting you come across in the collection (for a blog post or social media, and contribute information to a collection level description.

  • Able to work on a relatively repetitive task to meet their targets

  • Interest in archives is an advantage. The collection is that of a community music festival organisation based in East London, so an interest in music and/or culture in the local area would be helpful.
