Job Description

To be a model for Year 2 and 3 MBBS students to perform transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), pleural ultrasound and abdominal ultrasound. The session is supervised by healthcare professionals trained in ultrasound who will act as facilitators and tutors instructing on ultrasound technique. You will be required to lie on a couch for up to 2 hours with the torso and abdomen exposed so the students can practice performing ultrasound on your chest wall or abdomen. This task involves application of ultrasound gel to an ultrasound probe that will be positioned at key landmarks on your chest and abdomen to visualise the heart, lung and abdominal structures. The facilitator will demonstrate how to obtain images of your heart/lung/abdominal organs using surface landmarks on your torso and abdominal walls before allowing the students to operate the probe and practice obtaining the same images. Your two hour session consists of 4 shorter rotations of 30 minutes each with approximately 10 students per rotation.

This event takes place on Thursday 10th July and you are required from 3:30pm-5:30pm at Guy's Campus, Shepherd's House, Chantler Centre.



Qualifications

You are required to lie on a couch for 2 hours with short breaks. The couch will have the head supported and a gown/blanket available. The torso must be exposed to allow the ultrasound of your heart, lungs and abdomen.

To be a model for Year 2 MBBS students to perform a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). You will be required to lie on a couch for up to 2 hours (inclusive of breaks) with the torso exposed so the students can practice performing an electrocardiogram. This task involves placing adhesives and electrodes on the surface of the exposed chest wall to obtain a tracing of your heart's electrical activity. The students will operate the machine to obtain the ECG and interpret the findings. Each session is divided into two 45 minute segments with about 15 students per session. The students will rotate during the session to enable them all to operate the ECG machine and practice placing the electrodes on the chest wall at the correct positions. The session is facilitated by a medical education fellow.

Who we are Situated within IT Services, the Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT) provides strategic oversight of e-learning at QM and works to promote, support, and develop technology-enhanced learning across the institution.

Main duties: 

We are seeking 8 enthusiastic, confident, and tech-savvy students to join our team as part-time TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) Student Ambassadors, to work with members of the TEL Team delivering engaging and informative TELT student inductions during Welcome Week, September 2025. 

In 2023 TELT worked with 3 TEL Student Ambassadors to update and develop the TEL student induction programme, based on feedback gathered from students. Over the last two years, our new student led inductions have been well received, and we intend to deliver a similar programme for September 2025. 

As a TEL Student Ambassador, you will play a vital role in promoting the effective use of learning technologies to enhance the educational experience of our students. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Promoting our sessions across campus during Welcome Week.
  • Engage new students with our technologies by sharing individual experiences during face-to-face Welcome Week inductions.
  • Working in pairs, confidently deliver student inductions during the Welcome Week. This includes presenting information, providing demonstrations, and addressing any queries or concerns raised by students.
  • Actively promote the benefits and features of learning applications supported by the TELT, emphasising how these technologies can enhance the learning experience.

  • Available to work during Welcome Week (15th-19th Sep), Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9-5pm (exact hours to be confirmed) 

Education:

  • You must be a current student at Queen Mary University of London and continuing your studies in the upcoming academic year, 2025/26. We are especially interested in hearing from students who will be entering their second year in September 2025. However, we also welcome applications from those further along in their studies, provided they will remain enrolled until at least June 2026.
