Job Description

This is a full-time 5-month secondment role available from (ideally) May to September reporting to the Director of Operations in the Kings Digital team.  Part-time applications are welcome. 

As a Principal Analyst in a new area, you will initiate and lead on shaping multiple high-impact activities with a large degree of autonomy and self-direction. This will involve working directly with senior stakeholders across the university and commercial partners, so that you can: 

  • Understand, translate, and align business and data requirements 
  • Provide new insights on existing challenges across different subject domains 
  • Constructively challenge existing assumptions and preconceived ideas 
  • Demonstrate the ways in which data can drive innovation 

To deliver on this, you will collaborate with Strategy, Planning and Analytics, and a wider network of colleagues, using a range of techniques and tools across a variety of data sources to drive improvements in internal reporting on online programmes at Kings. 



Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Able to use one or more data analytics tools to an advanced standard, for example Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, R, M, Python, Power Automate, Excel, VBA 
  • Highly developed analytical skills, with extensive knowledge of the means through which insight can be derived from data, and ability to deploy a range of techniques to evaluate, model and interpret data 
  • Able to effectively present data from a range of sources to an advanced level, producing user-friendly outputs which give information in context 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate the outcome of analysis by delivering presentations and technical reports to a wide audience, including non-specialists 
  • Experience of working with a range of senior stakeholders to build levels of engagement and using data analytics effectively to influence outcomes 
  • A motivated self-starter, with experience of managing multiple and complex projects simultaneously and delivering on time, while maintaining excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness 
  • A lifelong learner, open to new tasks, inquisitive and willing to challenge

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of using and analysing data in SITS, or another student records system 
  • Experience of developing and delivering training across a range of audiences to identify and meet skill and process needs

Key responsibilities 

As the role holder, you will: 

  • Deliver insights by extracting, transforming, and combining data from multiple sources to create innovative, user-friendly, and engaging outputs using a range of software, including Power BI, SQL, and Power Automate 
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of data assets to address data quality issues 
  • Support internal stakeholders, including colleagues in Faculties, to understand their distance learning online programmes needs as asset users and data owners, identifying and delivering training and development required to drive continuous improvements  
  • Collaborate closely with commercial partners to identify requirements, process enhancements, and emerging data issues with new applicant and conversion pipelines 
  • Be confident in delivering challenging messages and critical analysis which cuts across conventional thinking and pre-conceived ideas 
  • Continually develop technical expertise and skills in relation to new and existing techniques, tools, and software 
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to other colleagues, promoting consistent and leading practices in use of our data assets 
  • Keep up-to-date on changes to Kings data policies and external influences and communicate their impacts on Kings online programmes, engaging with relevant external networks to stay abreast of developments and sector issues 
  • Support the remit of the Operations team to coordinate the delivery of business intelligence, and to foster a positive data culture, including delivering training and demonstrating the value of a data-informed approach to the organization.

Are you an experienced Research Assistant with a passion to improve child and adolescent mental health? Then this role might be of interest to you.

We are looking for a motivated, diligent and enthusiastic Research Assistant to work on a study focusing on the prevention of depression in children and young people. In this role, you will be working on a feasibility study of a brief self-help intervention that aims to prevent depression in adolescents and young adults. You will be part of an ambitious research programme that aims to advance our understanding on the targeting, personalisation and implementation of depression and anxiety prevention interventions for children and young people.

You will be working on coordinating the data collection for the study as well as focusing on qualitative and quantitative data analysis of the results and assisting with the write-up of the manuscript. You will also be the go-to person for administrative queries regarding the study, including ensuring the study runs smooth and on time. Moreover, you will be actively thinking about opportunities to increase the impact and learning of the project, where feasible.

You will work with the team to make sure our study adheres to the latest guidance and best practice methods for feasibility studies and will help with preparing a manuscript for publication. The Research Assistant will work in the Prevention Matters Lab (www.preventionmatters.co.uk) led by Dr. Breedvelt, and you will be based at the department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience King?s College London. You will be part of working in a dynamic team and have the opportunity to get involved in other projects if time permits, including working with stakeholders to develop an implementation pathway to inform future prevention intervention in the UK. 

We are looking for someone who has a good eye for detail, who is conscientious and has previous research experience especially in data collection (qualitative and quantitative) and research co-ordination.  

You will have great problem solving skills and are able to work independently but will ask for help and input when needed.

This is a temporary post, we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible and is able to work for x2 days a week. We are flexible with the days of work, but given that interviews are held on different days some flexibility is required to work around the participant's schedule. 

 



Qualifications

- MSc in Mental Health Science or related

- BSc in Psychology or related topic

We are open to applicants who are currently conducting a PhD as this role might offer the flexibility to combine this with a PhD project. We are also open to applicants who have recently defended their PhD.



Skills

- Expertise in children and young people's mental health research 

- Experience with working with children and young people (preferable)

- Experience with working on qualitative and quantitative research studies involving primary data collection and analysis with children and young people (ideally from start to finish)

- Understanding of legal and data protection frameworks when dealing with sensitive data

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage a dynamic workload to ensure deadlines are met

- Ability to co-ordinate research activities and support others with their work

- (Some) experience with writing research for academic peer-review publications and communication activities to a broader audience

- Growing understanding of Open Science practices and willingness to learn and develop skills in this area
