Sustainability Engagement Assistant

 

Job Description

Support King’s Climate & Sustainability to manage our communications channels. These channels include Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Spotlight on Sustainability podcast, YouTube, website (both internal and external), blog and newsletter. 



The SEA will primarily focus on the following: 





  • Content production including written text, videos and graphics to support various comms channels (social media, website, blog, newsletter, YouTube) and sustainability projects (Welcome to King’s, KEATS Sustainability & Climate module, re-launch of King’s Climate Action Network and Sustainability Champions programme, Environmental Sustainability Report, King’s Climate & Sustainability Action Plan) 







  • Liaising with key contacts across the university to spread the reach of the content, for example, central comms and Student Engagement Managers.  





It is crucial that the SEA works as part of the King’s Climate & Sustainability team to understand the team’s communication priorities for consistent and quality content across all the above channels.  



 



Tasks may include:  





  • Producing engaging content for online and social communications channels (e.g., graphics, Reels, stories and captions for social media) 




  • Scheduling content for all social media platforms 







  • Writing blog content and approaching contributors for guest blogs 




  • Supporting the monthly newsletter - liaising with stakeholders on key messages to include and writing content 




  • Ensuring information on the website is up to date 





 



Qualifications

  • King’s student or recent graduate  



 



Skills


  • Experienced at using social media (either personal or work related): Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook 







  • Editing skills – written and visual content (Canva) and video editing  




  • Ability to create content in line with King’s branding and Accessibility guides 




  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity through inclusive and accessible communications 




  • Excellent at working as part of a team 




  • Ability to create concise, engaging and informative content 







  • Attention to detail  




  • Quick to react and change priorities and communication plans when needed

Please detail what the candidate will be working on and the deliverable that they will be expected to produce. 

Context: King's Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) offers students (who are given the title ?Civic Scholars?) and community organisations across London, the opportunity to work together on addressing some of the capital's most complex social issues, whilst learning what makes and how to become better leaders and changemakers. We do this in two ways ? a Leadership Development Curriculum and practical experiences with our community partners. This academic year 2024-5 marks six years of the programme and we have some data from the past two years that we have collated. We would like this to be put into an engaging report.

Deliverable: To produce a visually engaging evaluation report

What exists

Your specific tasks

  • Review the data from the past two years and decide how to visually present this in a report
  • Draft 2-3 design examples of how these could be presented 
  • Design the report and share it with the team
  • Depending on how this goes, there may be an opportunity to work on another document.


Qualifications

We require no particular qualifications for this role but we do expect the applicants to have solid experience using design software. This could be from the Adobe suite or it could be strong use of programs like Canva.



Skills

Please give an overview of the skills you would expect the candidate to demonstrate during their internship.

  • Knowledge of King's College London's branding guidelines - including font package, use of colours, logo placement and image use etc is essential

Other skills we?d expect the intern to demonstrate include: 

  • Creativity & judgement: Ability to review the data and consider a number of ways this could be presented.
  • Excellent organisation & time-management: there is a tight turnaround for this project and so we need the candidate to work effectively, use their independent judgement
  • Strong communication and responsive: Email is the main form of communication and we need the candidate to communicate their availability and respond in a timely manner
  • Adaptability: receptive to amendments, feedback or change of direction
  • Attention to detail: ensuring that the designs are clear and neat

The Engagement and Insights Officer provides insight, communications and engagement support to the Associate Director, London Engagement within the International, Engagement & Service Directorate (IES).  

The post holder will deliver a series of focused research projects to identify/map activities across the University that align with the strategic priorities of our home boroughs (Lambeth, Southwark and Westminster). They will also deliver a broader research project focused on identifying/mapping King?s national partnerships and activities. Alongside this, the post holder will provide internal/external communications, engagement and administrative support to the Associate Director, London Engagement and the Senior Engagement Communications Manager.

IES is a new Directorate at King?s that brings together the expertise of teams engaging with communities and partners locally, national and globally. The Directorate provides strategic leadership for the university?s engagement at home and abroad, while providing a home for a portfolio of innovative programmes that generate and measure impact and serve the communities we work with and for. IES is home to some of King?s most innovative and impact-driven programming including Sanctuary, the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational EducationKing?s Volunteering, One King?s Impact, among others, as well as our civic and place-based engagement in London, and across the world.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead focused research projects that identify activities across the University that align with the strategic priorities of our home boroughs (Lambeth, Southwark and Westminster). Through independent research, using internal and external sources, deliver research/insight reports that demonstrate how King?s is supporting the strategic ambitions of our home boroughs. 
  • Lead a research project to identify/map King?s College London?s national partnerships, relationships and activities across education, research, service and engagement through independent research using internal and external sources. 
  • Provide hands-on administrative support, including email triage for London Engagement address. 
  • Provide internal/external communications and engagement support to the Senior Engagement Communications Manager for IES.
  • Support the development of CRM to build and expand the contacts database for all audiences.
  • Support with the development of engagement materials such as PowerPoint presentations.
