Research Fellow - CyberASAP Researcher

Job Description

CyberASAP (Cyber Security Academic Startup Accelerator Programme) is a UK government-funded initiative that bridges academia and industry by translating cutting-edge cybersecurity research into market-ready solutions. This position is about serving as Lead Market Researcher for CyberASAP Commercialisation project entitled EXIRAI: Evidence Extraction for Incident Response through Generative and Agentic AI.

The Position holder will lead market research and validation efforts for cybersecurity innovations within CyberASAP Year 9. Drive commercialisation by assessing market viability, engaging stakeholders, and developing strategic plans to transition academic research into real-world solutions.

Main duties and responsibilities:
1.  Market Research & Analysis
-Conducted independent research activities and analysed cybersecurity markets, including trends, competitors, and customer needs.
-Advise on and operate specific research techniques, for example, qualitative, quantitative, or literature based approaches.
-Assist in identifying target markets using primary (surveys, interviews) and secondary (industry reports) research.
-Contribute to the preparation of funding proposals (CyberASAP Phase 2)literature-based.
2. Market Validation
-Support the design and execution of validation strategies (e.g., customer interviews, pilot studies) to test product-market fit.
-Help refine value propositions based on stakeholder feedback.
-Contribute to the presentation of findings to sponsors, potential sponsors, members of University staff and to wider academic fora.
3. Commercialisation Strategy
-Contribute to developing go-to-market plans, business models, and pricing strategies.
-Collaborate with tech transfer offices on intellectual property (IP) considerations under supervision.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
-Assist in building relationships with industry partners, investors, and government bodies.
-Represent CyberASAP at select events, workshops, or meetings as required.
5 . Project Management and Profile
-Support project timelines, deliverables, and reporting. Work closely with cross-functional teams.
-Engage in networking and promoting the profile of the school, both internally and externally.

 



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity or related field (PhD candidates preferred).
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in market research, commercialisation, or cybersecurity/tech.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certification in cyber security and forensics.


Skills

Exposure to academic tech transfer processes or industry partnerships.

Strong analytical skills (qualitative/quantitative) and familiarity with cyber forensics field and tools.

Excellent communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.

Ability to manage tasks efficiently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Main purpose of the job: 

 

To provide support to the examination process. 

 

Main Duties: 

 

To support the Head Invigilator/ Examination Team with the day-to-day operation of examination venues. This may include (but not limited to): 

 

assisting with setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with the outlined procedures; 

assisting candidates prior to the start of examination by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues;  

offering advice and guidance to unregistered candidates without allocated seats; 

ensuring that candidates do not talk once inside the examination venue; 

invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures; 

checking attendance during examinations; 

recording details for early leavers and collect their scripts; 

escorting candidates from the examination venue during the examinations as required, and supervising candidates whilst outside the examination venue; 

collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures; 

assisting with the preparation of script envelopes; 

supervising candidates leaving the examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave in an orderly and quiet manner;

packing of examination papers, stationery and equipment prior to the examinations and the delivery to and from venues as appropriate;

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Tissue Bank Technician to provide technical support to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund Tissue Bank (PCRFTB), to enable comprehensive, efficient and effective service to internal and external researchers. In particular, sample processing, quality control, management of PCRFTB samples, general house-keeping and stock taking. 

This is a full time position for a duration of 3 months. We will be paying the successful candidate between ?17.97 - ?21.62 per hour plus holiday pay depending on experience. 

 



Qualifications

First Degree in biological sciences

Minimum of 2 A Levels in relevant subjects (e.g. Biology, Chemistry)



Skills
Working knowledge of Health and Safety, COSHH and GCP regulations and an understanding of the implications of compliance with the Human Tissue Act (HTA)
Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures
Experience in handling and processing human tissue in an oncology research environment
Experience of sample archiving and management using LIMS
Experience of managing databases to identify sample cohorts
Experience in nucleic acid extraction
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to organise own workload and respond to changing priorities
