Research Assistant

Job Description

This position entails working as a research assistant for a study that investigates the processing of novel and conventional metaphors in speakers of British English using eye-tracking while reading. The project is led by Jill Hohenstein, Dorota Gaskins, Xinyan Kou, and Eloi Puig-Mayenco from the School of Education, Communication, and Society at King’s College London.



 



The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will involve overseeing participant recruitment and conducting on-site eye-tracking data collection sessions at the Waterloo Bridge Wing building, located on the Waterloo campus. Additionally, the RA will handle initial data trimming and processing. The breakdown of allocated hours for each task is as follows:



 



10 hours for preparation, training, and meetings



45 hours for testing: accommodating 30 participants with sessions lasting 1.5 hours each



17 hours for data processing



 



The research assistant will receive comprehensive training and mentoring to successfully carry out these responsibilities.



Qualifications

BA/MA in Linguistics, Psychology or related discipline.



Skills

Essential:



Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., good Excel command)



Undergraduate level knowledge in linguistics and/or psychology research



Undergraduate level knowledge in experimental design



Experience with data collection



Good organisational skills



Social awareness and good communication skills

Interest in eye-tracking methodologies



Experience with statistical analysis applied to language-related research

This role is full time and is suitable for GRADUATES only.



The Curriculum Operations Administrator is a member of the Curriculum Operations unit (COU), within the Institute of Health Sciences & Education (IHSE), part of the School of Medicine and Dentistry.  The main purpose of the role is to provide the administration for years 3 and 4 on the MBBS processes and support the MBBS Manager.



Main duties and responsibilities



•    Provision of the administrative processes for the Bachelor in Medicine/Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) programme which is delivered by IHSE, in particular years 3 and 4 of the programme

•    Act as a key contact for all enquiries relating to the relevant programmes.

•    Managing the flow of information between the Heads of Year, Module Leads, Lecturers and Students.

•    Ensuring the smooth running of the relevant programmes on a day to day basis, including updating all timetables, module documentation & handbooks.

•    Maintaining and update student lists as required throughout the academic year.

•    Coordinating the submission of student work and subsequent grading, ensuring timely grade entry on to SITS.

•    Maintaining accurate records of student progression, including EC submissions & any other relevant information which will be required for Subject Exam Boards.

•    Managing the relevant areas of QMPlus ensuring all lecture notes, handbooks and learning materials are available in a timely manner.

•    Booking accommodation for all teaching in line with Room Bookings policy, ensuring all necessary materials and audio-visual equipment are available for sessions.

•    Monitoring student attendance in line with the attendance policy, and providing data for Tier 4 reporting as and when required.

•    Acting as secretary to the Academic Leads Meetings, including sending out agenda & associated paperwork, minute taking, distribution of action points.

•    Ensuring grades and tutor feedback are communicated to students in a timely manner, as detailed in the relevant standard operating procedure. 

•    Facilitating evaluation and quality activities, providing support and information as required for the programmes

•    Providing support to the Academic Leads with regards to current and future programme developments.

•    Answering student enquiries (face to face and/or online) as dictated by the Hub Rota or the Online Student Enquiries rota

•    Providing support for education-related duties such as OSCEs and other exams as directed by the Curriculum Operations Managers

•    Supporting the work of the wider Curriculum Operation Unit, including contributing to the provision of cover.  The post-holder is expected to be co-operative and flexible in accordance with the requirements of the Curriculum Operation Unit.  Team members are expected to be mutually supportive and to cover duties as necessary during colleagues’ annual leave and other absences

GCSE/O Level (Grade C or above) or equivalent in English and Maths



Educated to A Level (Grade C or above) or equivalent



Degree or equivalent, or equivalent attainment through experience (Desirable)



Skills

Experience of working as an administrator in a Higher Education Office environment (preferably health care related)



A successful track record in working with colleagues at all levels, including senior staff and external contacts



A good understanding of the annual cycle of administration within a Higher Education environment



Experience of working with a variety of databases (ideally SITS) (Desirable)



Awareness and understanding of the current issues within Higher Education, particularly in health care disciplines (Desirable)

With the losses in online trading due to fake accounts, stolen credentials and information leaks the figure becomes truly astronomical. The design of security solutions requires complex expertise - understanding of the processes within transactional systems under threat, knowledge of potential adversaries and their malicious behaviour, justified choice of suitable tools for detection, neutralization and prevention, and their proper configuration. The need for software for modelling the security infrastructure, estimating the security risks and analyzing the impact of the solutions on security is extremely high due to the complexity of the task and the impossibility of demonstrating the solutions experimentally. this role is for the development of a desktop software application that:




  • Model transactions under security threats.

  • Design of security architecture and behaviour analysis through simulated transactions

  • Calculate the security risks based on parameters of security analytics.

  • Determination of the impact of security infrastructure on risks     



 



The ideal candidate for the AI/Software Engineer position is a current/graduated AI/Software Engineering PG student who will assist in the market research, analysis and implementation of software (Reinforcement Learning and Visualization algorithms for solving risk assessment tasks under security threats). strong AI and programming skills are required.



A mixed background that combines knowledge from various areas, such as AI, Machine Learning (ML), data science, and software engineering, as well as a deep understanding of the cyber security domain, is highly advantageous.
