Job Description

SlowMo is a new, digitally supported psychological therapy that aims to reduce fears of harm from others (also known as paranoia) and promote living well. It is designed to address key barriers to improving outcomes in psychosis - treatment access, engagement, and effectiveness, particularly for marginalised groups. SlowMo is the first digitally supported therapy for psychosis to demonstrate evidence of uptake, engagement, efficacy, and positive user experience across a diversity of people in a large multisite randomised control trial.

We are now doing a Wellcome Trust funded study to investigate whether SlowMo can be delivered in routine NHS care, outside of a clinical trial. To support this evaluation, our team is currently developing version 2 of the software, incorporating recommendations from trial participants about how to improve its user experience.

These posts will support the production of videos that are included in the 11 SlowMo therapy sessions. The videos provide information about what worries are like, what keeps them going, and what can help. There is one general narrator and 3 character narrators. Each narrator will be required to deliver voiceovers for approximately 11-15 videos, that are roughly 30 - 90 seconds in length. Voiceover artists will be provided with the scripts, and asked to record and then transfer the audio files digitally to the research team. The work will be coordinated by Dr Amy Hardy (SlowMo2 Study Lead). There will be an initial meeting to discuss the brief and role in more detail, with the possibility of follow-up meetings, if required. The work will be in 3 stages.

  • Stage 1. Initial voiceover recorded for first pilot set of videos (1 video per narrator, for 1 session) to be completed asap, early August latest.

  • Stage 2. Majority of voiceovers recorded (approximately 10 videos per narrator, for 8 sessions) to be completed by mid-September latest.

  • Stage 3. Final voiceover recording for (approximately 2 videos per narrator, for 2 sessions) to be completed by end of the year latest. 

*Please note the hours per week box is not accurate - hours per week will fluctuate during the duration of the posts. It is anticipated that the work will not be time consuming, given the brevity of the videos, and can be fitted around the narrator's schedule (as long as submission deadlines are met) and similarly any meetings can be arranged at mutually convenient times. Narrators will be required to monitor the hours they spent working on the project, and submit timesheets for approval.

Ability to deliver voiceover narration in a naturalistic style, and be responsive to feedback regarding pace and tone.

Able to access and use audio recording equipment, produce high quality audio, and to label and send files digitally. 

Good written and oral communication skills.

Good organisational and time management skills.

Reliable, enthusiastic, and highly motivated.

Lived experience, training or clinical experience in mental health is desirable, particularly paranoia and psychosis. 


The KCL Global Cultures Institute seeks a Research Assistant to work on the Hussein Shariffe Unhoused Archive project. This digital archiving and transnational outreach project focuses on the Sudanese artist-filmmaker Hussein Shariffe. It explores how research on audiovisual archives that are born in conditions of exile, migration and diaspora enables new thinking on questions of postcolonial restitution, repatriation and reparation. The RA role involves support with completion of a digital archive of Hussein Shariffe’s papers, and administrative support for a hybrid workshop series based in London and Cairo. The workshop series begins in January 2024, and explores methods and approaches for restitution and reparation. The RA will report to the Project PI, Erica Carter, and liaise with a working group that includes colleagues in the UK, Ireland, Germany and the MENA region.


You must be either a PGR student or postdoc.


The RA will need to be a postgraduate student or postdoc with native or near-native Arabic language competence; basic knowledge of document capture, scanning, spreadsheets and similar digital tools; good organisational and communication skills; some awareness of issues in postcolonial cultural history and/or heritage. Knowledge of issues in film history and audiovisual heritage is desirable but not essential. 

Pay is normally £20.02/hour but rates are graded according to qualifications.

The role is to work across a range of projects related to mental health policy research. 


PhD in a mental health field

How these exams work

OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations) assess performance in a simulated clinical environment. Our medical candidates complete a series of timed stations in a circuit. Each station has an examiner who will assesses the candidate’s performance of the clinical scenario inside the station.

The role of an OSCE Invigilator is responsible for ensuring that the exams are conducted in an appropriate manor within the correct time frame. The main part of the role is to supervise students moving in numerical order to the next station.

Once students have completed all stations on the circuit, they return to the student registrations whilst supporting roles prepare for the next round of students.

  • What we ask from you

  • Assist with setting up the circuit(s): putting out clipboards, sharp pencils, and rubbers inside each station.

  • Assist with the setup of equipment (training will be given for the setting up of props or the resetting of station equipment).

  • Direct examiners, patients, simulated patients to the correct stations.

  • Be the first response for examiner questions or concerns, raising issues with the lead invigilator or senior examiner.

  • Ensure that marksheets and feedback sheets are kept in the correct order.

  • Invigilate in a busy exam environment.

  • Be vigilant of student malpractice and report any observances immediately to the Lead Invigilator.

Ensure that noise is kept to a minimum on the circuit and that exam conditions are maintained throughout. Provide water for students and examiners during the set break periods. Always observe general politeness and professionality. Be available for the duration of the exam and notify the lead invigilator / KCL staff member if this changes.

Available for a prompt early start: timings maybe different depending on the location but will generally be between the hours of 07:30 AM - 06:00 PM.
