Become a Research Advocate

The School of Law at Queens provides a rich and vibrant research culture. It produces meaningful research which is grounded in real world issues and creates real world impacts.

We are looking for a small team of Postgraduate Research Students to spearhead a key strategic research advocacy initiative within the school. The team will work closely with the Director of Research and the Core Disciplinary Research Group Coordinators to collect, document and disseminate information broadly related to our research environment, impact and development.

Responsibilities

These are evolving roles but it is envisaged that the key responsibilities will include:

Tracking and Documenting Research Activity

  • Generate and sustain a record of current research activity within the School by consulting with current and past members of staff.
  • Collect and catalogue data from a range of sources to complement material held in other repositories, such as PURE, ResearchGate, SSRN etc.
  • Use collected data to populate a staff research newsletter using Notion.
  • Keep track of research events and training and engagement activities on social media and other outlets.
  • Engage with staff to effectively collate ongoing research engagement activities and impact work.

Enabling Research Activity and Enhancing its Visibility

  • Help to organise research events and activities e.g. take registration, facilitate questions etc.
  • Take photographs and create content (in consultation with relevant School officers) that helps to profile research activity on social media.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  1. Currently undertaking a PhD within the School of Law and of good academic standing.
  2. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and to deadlines.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good working relations with colleagues.
  4. Familiarity with Excel and other data management tools.
  5. Excellent social media skills and ability to generate images and content that will positively advance our research strategy. 
  6. Strong sense of confidentiality and discretion.

 

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience of research advocacy
  2. Experience of using Notion / similar software programmes

This employment provides PGR students with the opportunity to become actively involved in a key strategic role within the School. It allows for professional development by further enhancing a range of skills from analytical and critical thinking skills to enhanced digital literacy. Where necessary, further training will be provided.

 

After the completion of 40+ hours of activity students will have the opportunity to submit an application for Researcher Plus Route A or B

The posts will require a commitment of 2-6 hours per week for which the post holder will receive a payment of ?15 per hour. The appointment in the first instance for 15 weeks and will be subject to periodic reviews. Progress will be monitored and the contract may be renewed thereafter subject to satisfactory performance.
