About the roles
The University is committed to ensuring a safe campus for all. As part of this work the Student
Wellbeing Service is looking to recruit 2 Consent Ambassadors to assist in the development of preventative initiatives across the University highlighting in particular awareness raising measures on sexual consent and bystander interventions.
Due to the nature of the post, students who are available between start of September 2024 consistently through to 30 June 2025 are only eligible to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from students who are expected to graduate from the University in December 2024


Pay: per hour ? ?12.00
Hours: A minimum of 10 hours per month will be guaranteed, with an increase in hours during
 busy periods.

MAJOR DUTIES
? To deliver peer directed learning to students on issues of consent and bystander intervention.
? The planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of ongoing Student-led events around the issue of sexual consent, gender based violence, hate crime, bullying and harassment etc.
? To assist with the development of student resources including producing online content hosted on the Report + Support website.
? To support the Student Wellbeing Service with organising awareness raising campaigns aligned to national and international awareness days/weeks throughout the academic year.

? Assisting with the creation of informed promotional content to highlight events, website and social media
? Familiarisation of and signposting key university support services including in-course disability, Student Wellbeing, Learning Development Service and Graduate School, QUB Accommodation etc
? Work alongside key partners both internal to the University including Schools, QUBSU, Community Engagement, QUB Accommodation etc.
? Assisting with campus duties associated with the Pre-Semester Engagement Programme, orientation and settling in advice and guidance,
? To provide an excellent customer service experience to new and returning students;
? To act as an Ambassador for the University at all times when undertaking the duties of the
post;
? Proactive monitoring of key issues and trends facing students, with meaningful and effective events designed around student insight and engagement; data entry to shared spreadsheets / issues log to provide to supervisors within the Service;
? Assisting with other projects throughout the academic year that help students settle into University life and learn more about the services & support available to them (e.g. Student Disability & Wellbeing Service activity, workshops, mental health awareness campaigns etc.);
? Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by the Supervisor.

 Applicants must be registered students at Queen?s University Belfast for academic year 2024 ? 2025 and for the full period that the post is available, otherwise the application will not be
 considered. (Please note, eligibility restrictions apply to PhD/MPhil applicants based on date of first registration as an undifferentiated research student, as per our code of practice and University Regulations associated with PGR students, in the first instance).
The successful applicant, for whom English is not their first language, must have achieved a minimum pass mark of 6.0 overall for their IELTS (International English Language Test Score) or equivalent. Please note a copy of your IELTS results will be requested by email to your QUB email address following submission of your application).
The successful candidate should be / have been / plan to be a resident in Belfast for their studies
 The successful candidate will commit to flexible working hours per week (?12.00/hour) from week beginning Monday 15th September 2024 until 30 June 2025, working a minimum of 10 hours per month, although hours will vary.
The successful candidate will be required to attend any relevant training required for the post.

? An awareness of, and a keen interest on the issues of sexual consent, gender based violence, bystander approach, wellbeing and mental health.

? Experience of organising events including booking venues, communicating with attendees, preparing materials, and identifying and resolving issues as they arise;

? Previous experience of working on campaigns including  safe & healthy relationships, gender based violence, bystander approach and equality and diversity issues or wellbeing (in a paid or volunteer capacity).
? Demonstrable experience of taking initiative and solving problems in a working / volunteering environment with minimal supervision;
? Experience of posting engaging content across the main social media platforms and growing audiences;
? Experience with and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and in the use of the internet as a tool for finding information;
? Willingness to complete the training required to undertake the role;
? Willingness and ability to work flexible hours - must be available for a minimum of 10 hours per month between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday during term time. Some evening work may be required. 
  Additional hours will be available during key periods during the academic year i.e. Pre- Semester/ Welcome period, St Patricks Day etc.
 Desirable Criteria

Autumn Careers Fair - Monday 14th October for briefing/Set Up (1.00pm until 4.00pm) and Tuesday 15th/Wednesday 16th October (9.00am until  5.00pm) on both days.

To support the successful delivery of our Autumn Careers Fair on campus, undertaking promotional and logistical event tasks, with focus on providing an excellent Fair experience for students and employers. 

MAJOR DUTIES: 

Fair Event Delivery 

  • Work as part of a team to ensure the successful and smooth set up and delivery of our Autumn Careers Fair on 14/15/16 October  
  • Provide consistent and high level of customer service at our Autumn Careers Fair 
  • Welcoming exhibitors (including employers), staff and students on campus 
  • Acting as a point of contact and a source of information and guidance 
  • Registering students 
  • Guiding exhibitors according to designated seating or floorplans 
  • Providing directional support as required 
  • Accurately capture required Fair information, e.g. scanning student attendance, recording feedback and providing update to supervisors as required
  • Undertake event set up and tear down tasks as allocated
  • Event staging, dressing of exhibitor stalls and positioning of branding collateral at Fair venues 
  • Recording and storing of Fair collateral post event 
  • Undertake any administrative duties in support of the careers fair 
  • Preparing exhibitor welcome packs and other fair papers 

Event Briefing and Training 

  • Undertake and fully participate in all relevant event training, as required. 
  • Attend fair briefing session, set-up and tear-down for Fairs, as directed. Key dates where availability is required are ? 14 October, 15 October, and 16 October 2024 
  • Act as an ambassador and representative of the University at all times when undertaking duties. 
  • Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by a Supervisor.

  • Previous experience of working in a customer facing environment (face-to-face contact) e.g. could include event venues, bars, clubs or restaurants, this is preferred but not essential

Student Mooting Officer

The Student Mooting Officer will work alongside the Mooting Co-Ordinator, the Student Law Society Mooting Officer and others on the Mooting Team in helping to run the mooting programme during the academic year and in contributing to the future development of this programme.

The post will require a commitment of a total of 100 hours over the current academic year for which the post holder will receive a payment of ?12.00 per hour.

Background to the Programme

The QUB School of Law Mooting Programme involves undergraduate and postgraduate law students in the exercise of arguing disputed points of law against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have whilst at university to appearing in court.  Mooting involves a number of skills, including legal research, the drafting of written arguments, and oral presentation.  In recent years, teams from the School have performed with distinction in external mooting competitions, and we also have a raft of competitive and training activities within the School.  Our overall aims are to develop students? skills in legal research and legal argument and to maintain and build up the reputation of the School in mooting skills.

 

Responsibilities

  1. To assist in the organisation of training and support sessions for student participants on the programme.
  2. To assist in co-ordinating the development of internal and external events associated with the programme.
  3. To assist in managing the administration of the programme in conjunction with the Mooting Co-ordinator.
  4. To manage the programme?s online presence, including social media.
  5. To liaise with the Research Advocates in publicising mooting activities.
  6. To assist in the development of other advocacy related activities such as mock trials.
