Job Description

QBS STUDENT REVIEW TEAM 



As a member of the QBS Student Review Team you will be representing the School’s student community by ensuring that your views on key areas, such as programmes, resources, internationalisation, etc., are shared with our accrediting bodies via a written report and an in-person group panel session.  



We are looking for 16 students who represent the diversity of the School’s student body (programmes, degree levels, and experience). This is a temporary project of 8 hours in total where you will be expected to attend planning, writing and review sessions from 16 October - 24 November 2023, and participate in a one hour in-person student panel to further discuss your experiences on 21 February 2024.  



The Student Report will require a lead coordinator who will be paid at a slightly higher rate as they will be expected to organise the writing sessions and edit the final document before submission on 24 November 2023. Postgraduate Research students with experience of reporting writing will be given preference.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria: 




  • A current Undergraduate, Postgraduate or Postgraduate Research student in Queen’s Business School 

  • Good organisational and communication skills 

  • Ability to work as part of a team-working, and also capable of independent work 

  • Willingness to actively contribute to a discussion with external accreditors in a group panel setting 



Desirable Criteria: 




  • Experience of report writing

MAJOR DUTIES: 




  • Attend meetings to plan and contribute to the Student Report 

  • Ensure that allocated portion of the Student Report is coherent and submitted to the Student Report Coordinator on time 

  • Review and provide feedback before the Student Report is submitted in November 2023

  • Attend a one-hour group panel session with our accreditors in February 2024

As part of a research project on interoperable technologies and standards development for virtual worlds and the Metaverse, Medialab requires desk-based research on development practices by key technology vendors. You will be required to conduct technology Horizon Scans, investigate marketing communications, and developer roadmaps to determine strategic direction of a company involved in Metaverse development. 

You will be required to complete a report on your findings, full guidance on the format of this report will be provided. 

The rate of pay for this role is ?17.51 per hour, it is envisaged that this role will take between 30-45 hours to complete.

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or relevant area.

Have or be about to obtain a postgraduate qualification involving an element of research training.

Experience in conducting literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative data collection and demonstrate high level of analytical capability.

Ability to assess, organise, analyse resources, and communicate effectively, in written form, digital presentations and oral presentations. 

Independent time management skills, attention to detail and ability to contribute to group activities.

Evidence of being able to work flexibly and to meet deadlines. 

Willingness to work as part of a team.

Student Mooting Officer

The Student Mooting Officer will work alongside the Mooting Co-Ordinator, the Student Law Society Mooting Officer and others on the Mooting Team in helping to run the mooting programme during the academic year and in contributing to the future development of this programme.

The post will require a commitment of a total of 100 hours over the current academic year for which the post holder will receive a payment of ?12.00 per hour.

Background to the Programme

The QUB School of Law Mooting Programme involves undergraduate and postgraduate law students in the exercise of arguing disputed points of law against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have whilst at university to appearing in court.  Mooting involves a number of skills, including legal research, the drafting of written arguments, and oral presentation.  In recent years, teams from the School have performed with distinction in external mooting competitions, and we also have a raft of competitive and training activities within the School.  Our overall aims are to develop students? skills in legal research and legal argument and to maintain and build up the reputation of the School in mooting skills.

 

Responsibilities

  1. To assist in the organisation of training and support sessions for student participants on the programme.
  2. To assist in co-ordinating the development of internal and external events associated with the programme.
  3. To assist in managing the administration of the programme in conjunction with the Mooting Co-ordinator.
  4. To manage the programme?s online presence, including social media.
  5. To liaise with the Research Advocates in publicising mooting activities.
  6. To assist in the development of other advocacy related activities such as mock trials.
