SHC Front of House Support (weekend cover)
4-10hrs/week at ?12/hr

Job Role

To be the first point of contact for academic & research staff, students, members of the public and other visitors to the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen?s. 

To provide general information on the programmes and activities of the Centre, directing enquiries, and supporting the smooth running of internal and external events and group visits. 

Based at the reception desk of the Seamus Heaney Centre, this is primarily a weekend role and applicants should be available to work at least one weekend day per week. Additional hours may be offered during core opening hours (Tue-Sun, 10.00-4.00, with some evening events). 



Qualifications

Degree or currently enrolled in an English degree (or closely related)



Skills

Key Duties:

  • Welcoming and directing visitors within the building and the wider campus. 
  • Daily maintenance and security of the front of house area (SHC gallery, reception and shop), including sales, gallery information, and inspections of public areas. 
  • Deal with routine enquiries from students, staff and visitors and provide them with the relevant information or refer more complex enquiries to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Updating database of audience data, visitor numbers and contacts.
  • Helping with technical set up for events, troubleshooting and logging calls with Information Services or Estates where appropriate.
  • Helping with room setup and hospitality for special events.

The EPSRC and SFI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Photonic Integration and Advanced Data Storage is a vibrant research community bringing together postgraduate researchers and academics from Queen?s University Belfast, the University of Glasgow and the Irish Photonic Integration Centre in Cork. Qualifications

Experience:

Experience in video production, editing, or a related role, preferably in an academic or corporate environment.   

Skills: 

Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve). 

Strong understanding of video production techniques, including camera operation, lighting, and audio. 

Knowledge of file formats, video compression, and resolution for various platforms and media. 

Familiarity with motion graphics and animation software (e.g., Adobe After Effects) is a plus. 

Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams. 

Attributes: 

Creativity and attention to detail. 

Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently. 

Strong organizational and time-management skills. 



Skills

Video Production: 

Support shoot, and edit video content for a variety of purposes, including promotional videos, event documentation, interviews, student spotlights and Industry Engagement (in-line with QUB promotional footage). 

Ensure high-quality footage with excellent lighting, sound, and composition. 

Post-Production: 

Edit video footage to create polished, professional final products that align with the university's branding guidelines and objectives. 

Incorporate graphics, animations, voiceovers, and music as needed. 

Data input of survey results (SOPARC) from field work taking place Wednesday 19th March to Tuesday 25th March 2025.  Input will be via excel.  The survey consists of fieldworkers observing activity in parks across East Belfast at various timepoints throughout a weeklong period.  This is a follow-up survey first executed in 2013.

 

Other general admin related duties may be required to assist with survey preparation, collection and curation of current, prospective and previous surveys. 

 

This work forms part of the Groundswell Project, based in the Centre for Public Health, Royal Victoria Hospital. The successful applicant will be expected to perform their duties on site.
