Student Registry team are looking for student helpers, available to work 20 hours minimum, to assist with Winter Graduation 2024. 

Have you got good communication skills? Are you conscientious and able to work well in a team? Then there may be an opportunity for you to perform a very important role in supporting the University?s Winter Graduation 2024. 

These posts are expected to be available from Monday 2 December to Friday 13 December.

Various duties to include - assisting in preparation of graduation brochures/parchments, preparation of the graduation hall, assisting guests and graduands on the day, and other tasks as identified by Student Registry Leads. Working hours will be from 8am - 4pm, unless otherwise specified, during the graduation period. 

It is a requirement of this post that applicants are currently registered and attending a course at Queen's University Belfast for the academic year 2024/25 and for the full period this post is available, otherwise the application will not be considered. 

Applicants must be available for a minimum of 20 hours during each week of the post. Please only submit an application if you are available to commit to this minimum.

About us

King?s Legal Clinic aims to improve access to justice and educate King?s students by providing free legal advice to members of the public through its Legal Advice Clinic and working with local and international organisations on research and justice projects. 

About the role

The Legal Clinic Coordinator will work under the Legal Clinic Manager to help with the day-to-day project management and administration of the Dickson Poon School of Law?s award-winning Legal Clinic, King?s Legal Clinic. 

The Legal Clinic Coordinator provides project management and high-level administrative support to Legal Clinic Manager, Director and Supervising Solicitors at King?s Legal Clinic (?the Clinic?). The role holder must have relevant professional legal experience, excellent organisational, IT, and communication skills and an ability to relate to and work with a diverse range of students, partner organisations and clients.  

A key function will be the day-to-day coordination and administration, a of King?s Legal Clinic. This will include: 

  • Supporting the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of the Legal Clinic.
  • Supporting the students with dealing with initial enquiries from members of the public, preparing case summaries, and support the supervising solicitors with triaging cases in a range of clinics
  • Liaising with law firm partners to arrange suitability checks and clinic rotas 
  • Booking client appointments, and managing and maintaining the digital case management system including data input 
  • To oversee day and some evening clinics and provide support and IT assistance to Students, Partners, and Clinic staff
  • Liaising with members of the public, the legal profession and voluntary organisations. The post holder will also be involved in the delivery of training to students on Clinic procedures. 
  • To support in the collation of data for reports, including the annual report 
  • Carry out the day-to-day financial administration and processing as necessary.

The position is likely to be of particular interest to a well-organised, proactive individual with experience of working in a busy legal environment, in particular a University Legal Clinic or Law centre, with good academic qualifications and interest an in access to justice.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week)

1.      Law Degree or Degree and demonstrable experience of the provision of legal services

2.      Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the English legal system, data protection requirements and professional standards applicable to legal service providers

3.      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft correspondence and documents with a high level of accuracy for diverse audiences

4.      Excellent administrative support and IT skills including use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Excel and knowledge of how to operate a legal case management system.

5.      Previous employment or experience in a law firm, legal advice or information service provider, charity, non-governmental organisation, government department, or Higher Education, or in a role that involves frequent contact with members of the public in relation to legal issues.

6.      Experience (including volunteer experience) of management or administration or other support of community projects at local, national or international level.

7.      Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

8.      The ability to communicate and work with individuals at all levels, including the Clinic?s partner and service users, from a wide range of backgrounds, from vulnerable and diverse communities where English is a second language

1.      Experience of administration and coordinating in a University Legal Clinic.

Purpose of the post

The School of The Built Environment and Architecture (BEA) offers some of London?sbest

courses in areas such as architecture, building services engineering, civil engineering, construction management, quantitysurveying and buildingsurveying. All our courses are closely linked with industry and accredited by the relevant professional institutions to the highest possible level.

 

Our apprenticeship offer is rapidlyexpanding and we are seeking passionate and driven Skills Reviewers who are committed to working with our academics and industry partners to develop the best Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in the sector. This particular post will sit within the division of Civil and Building Services.

 

The postholder will provide guidance and support to apprentices to work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours they will need to successfully complete their apprenticeship, and will liaise with employers to ensure the apprentice?s learning needs are being met in the workplace.Progress review meetingswith each apprentice and their employer will be undertaken at least three times a year for the duration of their programme, either in person at the apprentice?s workplace, or remotely via MS Teams.

 

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and developing good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Industry experience would be an advantage. They will be comfortable working independently and will have excellent organisational and time management skills.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Work alongside both the Apprenticeship Team and School academics to provide proactive and reactivevocational and educational support to apprentices and their line managers throughout the apprenticeship scheme.

 

  1. Monitor apprentice progression against knowledge, skills and behaviour standards (as well as functional skills where appropriate) and provide feedbackto both the apprentice and their line manager.

 

  1. Undertake regular progress review meetings with apprentices and mentors as required. These meetingswill either take place at the apprentice?s workplace; the University; or via MS Teams.

 

  1. Support the apprentice to prepare for theirend-point assessment.


 

  1. Work with employersand academic colleagues to support the agreement of on and off the job development plans with the apprentices and monitor and record progress to ensure that both the university and employer remain compliant.

 

  1. Work with the Apprenticeship Team and Teaching, Quality and Enhancement to ensure all qualityassurance requirements relevantto the educational support of an apprentice are being met.

 

  1. Ensure that all learning activity is recorded and auditable in line with funding regulations and that any university delivery, process and monitoring systemsare adhered to within the agreed time limits.

 

  1. Contribute to the development of appropriate programme systems and processes.

 

  1. Complete any requiredlearning and development activities required to enhance your knowledge and perform the role more effectively.

 

  1. Ensure that procedures for access to, and retention of, information withinthe School comply with the requirements of the University and the General Data Protection Regulation.
