Assessment Support Hub Student Assistant - Job Description

The Assessment Support Hub team are seeking to recruit a Student Assistant to join their team to contribute to this exciting University project.

The Assessment Support Hub (ASH) is a digital site hosted on SharePoint which has been designed as a one-stop shop to provide information for Queen's students on all things assessment. The site is the result of a cross-campus collaborative project which aims to demystify assessment, let students know about services which can help with things like academic writing, wellbeing concerns, etc. and provides support if things aren't going as planned. Students were involved from the beginning, and helped to benchmark what was available at other universities, to co-design the site, and to create its content.

The primary role of the ASH Student Assistant will be to provide effective administrative support to the project leads as the site moves into the next phase of communications and implementation.

The postholder will play a key role in ensuring the student voice is firmly embedded within the ASH and help to design and shape content that promotes how students can be empowered to become healthy learners and make informed decisions around preparing for and engaging with assessment.

Hours may vary throughout the project but will be up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Hours may vary throughout the project. It is anticipated that this post will be available until August 2024 but will be reviewed on the basis of funding.  

The postholder will primarily work Monday to Friday, however occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The postholder will be based on-campus. Interviews will be held on Thursday 4 July.


General Duties:

  1. To carry out administrative tasks including scheduling and planning meetings, developing action lists, and ensuring they are followed-up. To monitor, draft and respond to emails, and coordinate robust file management and version control across shared platforms e.g., Teams sites.

  2. To contribute towards the communication plan for the next phase of implementation for the digital site to include social media, training for staff, student and staff newsletters, digital screens etc.

  3. To contribute towards the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.

  4. To develop engaging content in relation to the ASH including video content for the site, social media, web-based copy and graphics, intranet material, and project updates to key stakeholders.

  5. Engage with key stakeholders connected to the ongoing development of the ASH, including but not limited to members of the Project Implementation and User Groups, staff and students, and members of Faculties, Schools, and Directorates across the University.    

  6. To act as an ambassador for the University including supporting the ASH project leads and academic and professional staff in service delivery as required.

  7. To undertake all relevant training as required. 

  8. Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by the supervisor(s) and provide regular updates to supervisory staff.

Audio & Video Editing role

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Part-Time Student Podcast Editing Assistant (Audio & Video Editing) to join our team at Queen’s Student Experience Team.  

Are you passionate about storytelling through podcasts and have a keen eye for detail? This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in audio and video production while supporting incoming students. 

In this role, your primary focus will be editing and enhancing our audio recordings to ensure our podcasts deliver a polished and engaging listening experience. However, there may be additional opportunities to utilise your video filming and editing skills as project needs evolve. These podcasts and any potential video content will be published on a designated webpage within our upcoming Pre-Entry Onboarding Resources, ultimately supporting incoming students as they transition into their academic journey at Queen's University Belfast. 

Role responsibilities include: 

  • Podcast Editing (Primary Responsibilities) 

  • Store and organise raw audio recordings securely and in a clear and logical system. 

  • Edit raw audio recordings for our seven, 7-10 minute podcasts, ensuring a polished and engaging listening experience.  

  • Use podcast editing software to create engaging and professional content. 

  • Add music and sound effects from royalty-free sound libraries, and other elements to enhance the audio appeal of the podcasts. 

  • Remove background noise, edit interviews (including removing pauses and filler words), and level audio for consistent volume across speakers. 

  • Identify and resolve any audio quality issues (e.g., clicks, pops). 

  • Incorporate feedback to refine audio content and meet project goals. 

  • Export final podcasts in the required format and specifications. 

  • Ensure that the final podcasts meet the University's branding and project messaging guidelines.  

  • Assist with tasks related to podcast pre-production, such as script editing or transcription (if required). 


Video Filming & Editing (Secondary Responsibilities): 

  • Film short video content as assigned, following project guidelines and using provided equipment. 

  • Edit video content using editing software to create engaging and informative pieces. 

  • Collaborate with the project coordinator to ensure video content aligns with project goals and messaging. 

Project Management: 

  • Communicate effectively with the project coordinator and other team members to ensure project goals and deadlines are met. 

  • Maintain organised records of digital content assets, including backups and archives.  

Additional Information:

  • This is a casual work with flexible hours. The total working hours are estimated at 60 hours, spread over the four-week project period. Your actual working hours will depend on the time needed to complete the podcast editing tasks and any additional video editing needs.  

  • Work location will be hybrid with regular on-site check-ins with the project coordinator regarding progress. 

  • Training will be provided regarding the University and the project guidelines.


  • Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar) 


Essential Criteria: 

  • Candidate must be a current student at Queen’s University, Belfast. 

  • Demonstrable experience of audio editing content (e.g., podcasts, audiobooks) with a portfolio of previous work. 

  • Demonstrable experience of video editing content (e.g., content for social media) with a portfolio of previous work. 

  • Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar)

Dr Conall Mallory is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant. The successful candidate will work to record voting patterns of judges in decisions handed down by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. While knowledge and understanding of the European human rights system would be an advantage, it is not required for this project.

The successful candidate will assist in populating a Microsoft excel spreadsheet which identifies how votes were made in judicial decisions across a 25-year period.
